Ringette in Canada
Ringette is a native winter sport as it was invented in 1963 in Espanola, Ontario, a small town of 5,000 located 465 kilometres northwest of Toronto. It is similar to hockey in several ways, which likely has a lot to do with its popularity within these borders as tens of thousands of registered players regularly take to the ice for this fun sport. Athletes from various other countries play it too, including the United States, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Russia. In fact, Finland has won the last six World Ringette Championships.
